Zalto Glasses   Zalto make some of the most beautiful wine glasses we've seen, each individually mouth-blown, feather-light and delicate, but aesthetics to one side, these glasses are tough and strong and their unique design makes wine taste somehow fresher and more alive. In fact, surprisingly, so break-proof that whilst the initial investment may seem high (from £27.50 per stem) you don't have to replace them as often as other lead crystal glasses. Zalto has only been around in the UK for a few years and we are very proud to be one of the first stockists. A sixth generation artisanal glassmaker in Lower Austria who has quietly been making a small range of glasses and decanters in a unique design. Unlike the tulip shaped glasses we've come to know, these radical new angular glasses are in a completely different league when it comes to the way the wines smell and taste. "...surprisingly break-proof" “I didn’t think, that there would be anything better on the glass-market …" "Water, wine, sparkling wine and beer are processed to an unsurpassable indulgence..." Just some of the amazing reviews that Zalto wine glasses have recieved from winemakers and press in Austria.visit their website for the story of Angles! http://www.zaltoglas.at/en_perf.phpsee the range on our website: http://www.philglas-swiggot.com/category/290/Zalto_GlassesFrom Jancis Robinson's article: Essential equipment for winos 24 Dec 2010 by Jancis Robinson/FT A rather more fanciful reason is evinced for the glasses that have most impressed me recently, from Zalto, with a similarly rather Scandinavian shape. They are designed by 'the wine priest, Father Denk' and 'the bowls are tilted at the angles of 24, 48 and 72 degrees, which are in accordance to the tilt angles of the earth'. Who knew? What I love is that Zalto glasses are the thinnest and most delicate glasses I have come across, yet seem springy and almost elastic in the hand. The Zaltos were originally Venetian, but the glasses are made in northern Austria and over the border in the Czech Republic. Best of all, the manufacturers say they are best washed in a regular dishwasher. ...they are not cheap, but they are cheaper than many of Riedel's top models and would give any serious wine lover a real thrill over the closeness of contact they offer.
