Claude Muzard was recommended to us by our Chablis producer Helene Defaix. Claude and his brother Herve have taken their ancient family estate and brought it into the new century with some brilliant wines of real purity and finesse. There are no dilute and overdone wines in their portfolio and even the little Bourgogne Aligote is an exercise in finesse. Considered the ugly duckling white of Burgundy, the Aligote grape loses vineyard space to Chardonnay, yet this beautifully elegant white is a little gem and has all the pure fruit and fine balance seen throughout the top wines in this vintage.
