The Cantina at Terlan in North Eastern Italy's Alto Adige region is one of the great wineries in the world and certainly Italy's finest white wine producer. The vines grow on the steep terraces with complete drainage and for some quirky reason the whites produced here have such a high acidity quotient that they age extremely well and never oxidise. They have an unique set up of specially designed horizontal stainless steel tanks to age the wines on their fine lees before bottling. Each year they release a Chardonnay which is at least a decade old!
The location of the vineyard is 'Vorberg' on the steep slopes above Terlano. Fermentation at controlled temperature in big oak casks; malolactic fermentation and ageing on fine yeast for 12 month. Intense scent of ripe apples and pears combined with delicate wood spice. Medium-bodied, with a gentle, soft acidity, very persistent. |
