Superb new find for us. This is from the top of the hills around the town of Dogliani where the oldest vineyards of Dolcetto were planted nearly 100 years ago. Current owner Mario Boschis continues this estate's focus on Dolcetto, which has been the primary varietal here since the property was established in 1968. Mario produces clean, rich, rather powerful examples. Perfumed nose offers black cherry, strawberry, graphite, liquorice and violet, enhanced by exotic suggestions of Indian spices and apricot pit. Juicy, lively and light on its feet, with a restrained sweetness and lovely inner-mouth perfume to the dark fruit, violet and mineral flavours and a hint of almond. Quite smooth but brisk and firm for a Dolcetto. The pure finish features dusty tannins. |
