A lovely new red from one of the most exciting South African producers, Adi Badenhorst who was, until recently, winemaker at Rustenberg. Badenhorst's laid-back style (he readily admits he has no high-tech winery equipment and uses ' old concrete tanks and wooden fermenters.') There’s no crushing or destemming here". This cutting-edge, low-tech approach brings characterful and individual wines. These are seriously good wines, the unusual choice of grapes gives the wines great character, work really well together and offer much more than the sum of the varietals in the blend. The family red has elegance and balance with layers of secondary meaty, leathery flavours and well defined powdery tannins that support the sumptuous fruit. The Secateurs label red and whites are brilliant value for money. |
