| Origin France Southern Rhone Grapes Grenache Mourvedre Syrah Style Medium bodied dry red Some of the best value reds in France are coming from the top producers, such as this one in Chateauneuf du Pape, who "declassify" a good proportion of their top vineyard wine into the basic Cotes du Rhone appellation. Jean-Paul Daumen took over from his father in 1990 and has rapidly risen to the top and today Domaine Vieille Julienne is considered to be one of the best in the region. Clavin is a small 'clos' or walled vineyard on the opposite side of the road to the Chateauneuf-du-Pape boundary and right alongside the Daumen's house. There is an element of elegance not usually associated with the Rhone in this wine no doubt due to the juicy Grenache component in the blend. |
