Rita Ferreira Conceito Bastardo Douro

Origin Portugal, Douro
Style  Medium to light, elegant dry Red wine
Grape Bastardo

A red wine so unusual in the Douro yet Bastardo was possibly the most widely planted variety in the Douro 150 years ago.
Just 5000 bottles produced, by treading the grapes in the lagares and then ageing for 10 months in old French oak.  Very light colour, with an intriguing palate and lovely aromatics, this is a sophisticated red to go with Spring lamb, or one that you can chill in the height of summer.

Rita Marques comes from a Douro-farming family and after stages working at Niepoort and in New Zealand, she has returned to farm the Quinta in the Tejo Valley just behind Vesuvio in the Douro Superior.  The meso-climate here means that harvesting is two weeks later than on the Douro frontage which gives the wines that touch of refinement and elegance across the range.
Rita's white Concieto Branco has been rated as Portugal's best white wine in one of the magazines there.
