Origin Hungary Eger
Grape Kekfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir
Best Hungarian Winemaker 2009 Winner Best Bikaver
Many of Hungary's great vineyards were left to rack and ruin after the Russian invasion during the Second World War and landowners were stripped of their estates. Andrea and Gyorgy Lorincz were amongst a handful of vignerons granted land on the great Nagy-Eged hill. This is a geographical landmark as well as a viti-cultural icon in Hungary. A volcano that rears out of a rolling agricultural landscape, was completely re-planted with vines over the last two decades. Nagy-Eged is historically the best wine producing region in Hungary if not all of Middle Europe, not only for its soils, position and elevation above sea level, but from the sheer expectation that good wines will be grown here.
So what does the wine taste like? This delicious supple red is a delight from initial perfume right through to the quality finish. By the way, Eger is best known for a wine called Bulls Blood if you remember, but Akutya Fajat is slang for "anything goes" is definitely a contemporary red that will redefine what to expect from this region in future. Kekfrankos, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. |
