Grapes Syrah, Carignan
Style Medium dry red
Yet another great producer in the Roussillon shows how distinctive this region is becoming, and how different it is from its neighbour, the Languedoc. The wines are very much defined by their schistes soils and the (now traditional) use of small percentages of local old vine Carignan. The Monte Nero has a depth and richness that makes it a superb winter red; almost prunes and armagnac aroma with the spicy/herby flavours of the region and although intense it is not too heavy, the minerality gives structure and freshness. |
