Barbera d'Alba Superiore G D Vajra
Origin Italy, Piemonte, Langhe
Style Medium bodied dry red
Grape Barbera d’Alba
We first tried this at Vinitaly in the Spring of 2002 (it was the 1999 vintage) and have loved it ever since. A truly memorable wine its delicate perfumes of violets and crushed earth will come out given some time in the decanter (about 4 hours prior to serving if you have the time). Superbly elegant, beautiful balance, let this be your benchmark to appraise all other Barbera's. Vajra is a traditionalist in Piemonte with vineyards at about 400 metres above sea level in the village of Vergne in the commune of Barolo. The wines are aged in the traditional way in large botti (barrels).

A soft, sensual style. While most important Barberas today reveal considerable concentration, this is a wine that relies first and foremost on a level of finesse that is all its own. Silky tannins frame a finish of extraordinary elegance.
