Origin Portugal Douro
Style Elegant medium-full bodied
Grape Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca.
Francisco Olazabal (Jnr) has taken his family's one time home of Barca Velha to the next level and year in year out has shown just what it is capable to producing. Is 2008 his best ever vintage? Grapes for both Meandro and Vale Meao are first trodden in teh old lagares at the winery before being transferred to vats for fermentation, all done by variety.
The result is quite a powerful wine with a rather meaty nose reminiscent of syrah because of the hint of spices. The violet on the nose is the signature for the superb Touriga Nacional. The palate is smooth and concentrated with dark cherries encased in the smooth tannins. You have the feeling of elegance and power.
Will go perfectly with quite a rich cuisine - duck confit, or braised lamb shanks . Maybe your local Portuguese deli could source for you some Black pig cuts !
Pre-ordering advisable - shipped each Spring - generally sells out on release
